Horror of War

Canvas painting which I did to show, the horrors of war. It was inspired to me by the civil war which Sri Lanka underwent until 2009. I wanted to show the despair and the sadness war bring to people

The figures in the painting have a meaning behind them. The main figure, spreading his arms and screaming show how the war could affect our mental wellbeing and are physical state. The main gunner killing the civilian shows us that even the soldiers who fight the war, have redemption for killing innocent civilians, which I shown in the red eyes and the screaming face. The second solider with one arm up and a dismantled face shows how a war could physical and mentally change a normal human being. The dead figures shows the death of and destruction of war that befalls a community The dull cobalt background colors show that war doesn’t bring anything to the world but sadness, destruction and poverty.
